Baseball and Jazz: Joint American Pastimes
"I think there are only three things that America will be known for 2,000 years from now when they study this civilization: the Constitution, jazz music and baseball. They’re the three most beautifully designed things this culture has ever produced.”
—Gerald Early, cultural critic
Two of our country's most important cultural contributions to the world, baseball and jazz are surprisingly and inextricably intertwined with one another. Both were instrumental in the early part of the Civil Rights movement, and top baseball players and jazz musicians had a great mutual respect for one another. The association between the two continues to be well represented in our shared American culture through film, TV, and more.
